Luther Thomas Jones Jr., affectionately known as “Boe”, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born on July 12, 1956 in Picayune, Miss. to the late Luther Thomas Jones Sr. and Mary Agnes Jones. Boe lived a life rooted in love, community, and joy.
He attended Jackson State University and later dedicated 18 years of service as a Material Handler at NASA’s Stennis Space Center. Boe was known for his infectious smile, generous spirit and deep love for his family and community. Whether he was casting a line on the water, cheering on the New Orleans Saints, singing along to his favorite country songs, or lighting up a room with his humor, there was never a dull moment when he was around.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Yvette Jones; his parents, Luther and Mary Jones; one sister, Sharon Jones, and two brothers, Donald and James Jones.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory three loving daughters, Toi (Avivette) Jones, Ariel (John) Green, and LaRhonda (Chris) Rodgers; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and laughter. Luther also leaves behind five brothers, Kenneth (Lynn) Means, Bill Jones, Anthony Jones, Teryon (Erica) Jones and Brian (Toni) Jones; five sisters, Beverly (Charles) Janet, Cynthia Stewart, Sylvia Dedeaux, Malisa (Kevin) Greenlee and Karla Denham, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Luther Thomas “Boe” Jones Jr. will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Weems Chapel United Methodist Church in Picayune, Miss., officiated by Pastor, the Rev. Robert E. Pittman. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Church. Interment will be in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
Boe will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
