Suspect in Rouse Road Homicide Taken Into Custody

A suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on Rouse Road is now in custody, according to authorities.

On Saturday, March 29, at approximately 2:44 p.m., officers with the Picayune Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Rouse Road about a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found one individual who had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as Ivan Mitchell, reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived. Authorities said he was last seen driving a white 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Louisiana license plate 406 HQZ.

Initial information indicated that Mitchell may have fled to Louisiana following the incident. Law enforcement agencies requested public assistance, asking anyone who saw Mitchell or the vehicle to contact 911 or the department’s dispatch center.

On Sunday, the Picayune Police Department confirmed Mitchell had been located and taken into custody. As of Monday morning, details regarding the arrest, including where Mitchell was apprehended, have not been released.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
