U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell (R-Miss.) joined fellow lawmakers at the White House to sign S.J. Res. 11, a resolution aimed at overturning a Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) rule implemented by the Biden administration. The rule, which restricted American energy production on the Outer Continental Shelf, was criticized for increasing costs and limiting domestic energy development.

“This is a great day for American energy independence and for the hardworking men and women who power our nation,” Ezell said. “The Biden administration’s misguided rule was a disaster for our energy producers, driving up family costs and making us more reliant on foreign adversaries. By overturning this rule, we are unleashing American energy and ensuring a stronger, more secure future. Mississippi’s energy workers and consumers deserve policies that support economic growth and energy security—not unnecessary government overreach. I thank President Trump for his strong leadership in signing this legislation and reaffirming our commitment to affordable and reliable American energy.”

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) also praised the decision, emphasizing the importance of lifting regulatory burdens on oil and gas producers.

“Burdensome regulations hurt oil and gas producers’ ability to provide affordable energy and jobs to Americans. I’m thankful to President Trump for taking handcuffs off energy producers by signing my resolution into law,” Kennedy said.

Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) echoed similar sentiments, commending the administration for reversing policies she viewed as detrimental to offshore energy production.

“President Trump promised to restore America’s energy might, and by signing these resolutions of disapproval, he helps Congress reset policy in a way that encourages offshore oil and gas production,” Hyde-Smith said. “This action also has greater staying power, as any future administration would find it more difficult to reinstate the misguided regulations imposed during the Biden years. I commend President Trump for signing this important congressional resolution of disapproval and appreciate the opportunity to be part of the signing ceremony.”

The Biden-era rule placed stringent regulations on domestic energy producers, which critics argued hindered job creation and increased energy prices. S.J. Res. 11, which passed both chambers of Congress with bipartisan support, reinstates policies that proponents say allow for responsible energy development while bolstering American jobs and national security.

Ezell has been a vocal advocate for American energy independence. He has supported legislation to cut bureaucratic red tape and promote domestic energy production, and he continues to support policies to reduce costs for American families and businesses.
