Freshman Addison Davis hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the seventh inning to put the game away, as the PRC Lady Devils rallied from an early deficit to beat Columbia High, 13-3, on Friday at Columbia.

PRC trailed 3-1 after four innings to a tough Lady Wildcats squad, but the Lady Devils took the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Davis hit a two-run homer to tie the score, and Bayli Cucinello scored later in the inning after doubling, then coming home on a bunt by Carley Mataya, the play culminating with a brilliant hook slide at home plate by Cucinello to avoid the tag.

The Lady Devils increased their lead to 8-3 in the sixth on an RBI single by Anna Neal and RBI doubles by Davis and Cucinello.

Shelbie McCracking had an RBI single in the seventh just before Davis connected on her grand slam over the left-center field wall.

Starting pitcher Kylie Terry threw two scoreless innings to start the game for PRC. She was relieved by Cucinello, who earned the win. Eighth-grader Ava Kennedy threw a scoreless inning in the seventh in her first-ever varsity appearance.

Offensively, Cucinello was 4-for-5 with three doubles. McCracking reached base in all five of her at-bats, with three singles and two walks, and Alexa Vaughn reached base in four of her five plate appearances.

The Lady Devils improved to 5-1-1 on the season, the lone loss coming on Monday at Oak Grove, 11-8.

“We really needed a good performance after that Oak Grove game,” said PRC Coach Tony LaBella. “Everybody in our program was extremely disappointed by how we played in that one. So to respond the next time out was critical. I wish we had started scoring a little earlier against Columbia, but at least we got it going in the fifth inning.”
