Manna Ministries marked 25 years of service with an open house celebration on Wednesday. Executive Director Jameye Martin expressed gratitude for the community’s support and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to its mission.
Manna Ministries has grown significantly. It was founded in 1999 as a small food bank in a church fellowship hall. In 2005, it opened a medical clinic, relocating after Hurricane Katrina. The organization moved to its current facility in 2008, expanding to include a dental clinic in 2010 and case management services for home repairs and rebuilds.
Manna Ministries has also operated as a Red Cross shelter thrice, housing up to 385 individuals during Hurricane Isaac. In 2010, a food delivery program was introduced to assist clients with transportation challenges. The “Twice as Nice” thrift store opened in 2018 to support the organization’s initiatives.
In response to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the organization adapted by offering telemedicine services, which continued until in-person visits resumed in 2021.
“We are grateful for the support we have received and remain dedicated to meeting the needs of our community,” Martin said.
