Sally Marie Bennett, 87, of Nicholson, Miss. was summoned home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024. Sally was born June 25, 1937 in Seminary, Miss. She was a homemaker. Sally, or “Granny” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was a lifelong resident of Nicholson except for time spent later in life at the home of her daughter in Bay Springs, Miss. She was a woman of profound faith, and it was her personal relationship with God that guided every step of her journey. She found strength in prayer, and comfort and guidance in scripture. She led others by example through acts of friendship and compassion, and always welcomed everyone into her home. She took much pleasure in caring for her family, always putting herself last. She lived a simple life, finding her greatest joy simply being surrounded by her family. She was married to Cecil Dero Bennett for 65 years until his death ended that union. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Rita Slaydon Shoemake; brothers, Billy Mack Shoemake and Winston Shoemake, and a daughter-in-law, Paula Bennett. She is survived by a son, Glenn Bennett of Carriere, Miss. and a daughter, Carol Bennett McRee (Tim) of Bay Springs, Miss. Her five grandchildren are Phillip Bennett (Juanita), Travis Bennett (Jessica), Adam Bennett, Jonathan McRee (Johnna) and Angie McRee Stokes (Jeremy). She also has 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends will gather at her graveside at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Nicholson at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024 for a memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.
