Nickie Smith Honored with Key to the City of Picayune

During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Jim Luke presented Nickie Smith with a Key to the City in recognition of her extensive contributions to the community. Smith, a leader in numerous civic organizations, was celebrated for her dedication, leadership, and service, which have positively impacted Picayune.
“Nickie Smith has dedicated her time, talents, and heart to making our community a better place,” Mayor Luke said during the presentation. He highlighted her leadership roles in organizations such as the Picayune Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce and her involvement in initiatives like the Boys and Girls Club, Relay for Life, and the Downtowners.
Luke also noted Smith’s recent efforts in organizing a Christmas shopping event for children in foster care, her role as a small business owner of a marketing and printing company, and her leadership at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Accepting the honor, Smith expressed gratitude for the recognition. “I hope that, by setting an example, more people will be encouraged to serve and contribute to improving our community,” she said.
Council members and attendees admired Smith’s impact on the community. Council member Jan Stevens praised her work with young women, noting her commitment to mentoring and developing their potential.
The Key to the City is a ceremonial honor given to individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the community. Smith joins a distinguished group of recipients whose contributions have significantly shaped Picayune.
