Governor Tate Reeves released his Fiscal Year 2026 Executive Budget Recommendation today, outlining an agenda to continue Mississippi’s economic growth, enhance infrastructure, improve education, and ensure public safety.

The budget proposal, which centers on eliminating the state’s income tax, aims to build on the state’s recent economic achievements and lay the foundation for further private-sector investment. Additionally, the plan includes measures to strengthen infrastructure, raise education standards, and defend parents’ rights.

Key Priorities in the FY 2026 Budget

Governor Reeves highlighted the following priorities in his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2026:

  • Elimination of Mississippi’s Income Tax: The budget includes a commitment to continue efforts to eliminate the state’s income tax. Governor Reeves believes this move will stimulate economic growth and attract private investment.
  • Strengthening Infrastructure: The budget proposes continued investments in Mississippi’s infrastructure, ensuring the state’s critical assets are protected and capable of supporting future growth.
  • Education: The budget includes provisions to raise education standards while defending parents’ rights, continuing Mississippi’s efforts to improve educational outcomes. The state’s high school graduation rate is at an all-time high, and Governor Reeves expressed a commitment to further enhancing education for future generations.
  • Public Safety: Governor Reeves emphasized making Mississippi safer for all residents. His budget proposes further investments in law enforcement, including support for the Capitol Police, who have played a key role in making the state’s capital safer.
  • Celebrating American Heritage: The budget also includes plans to celebrate Mississippi’s American heritage, promoting pride and unity across the state.

“Mississippi continues to shatter records,” said Governor Reeves. “We finalized the largest economic development project in state history, allocated hundreds of millions toward infrastructure, and invested in the future of our workforce. Our state has seen its unemployment rate drop to its lowest level in history, creating thousands of high-paying jobs. This momentum will continue in FY 2026.”

Governor Reeves also stressed that the state’s recent educational success, including the high school graduation rate exceeding the national average, reflects Mississippi’s ongoing commitment to improving opportunities for all residents.

“Our work is far from done, but we are on the right path,” Governor Reeves said. “We will continue doing what’s necessary to build an even brighter future for Mississippi.”

The state legislature will now review the proposed budget, which will begin evaluating and adjusting the recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year.
