The Pearl River Central High School community garden project recently received donations and support from local organizations. Community Garden Coordinator Alice Payne contacted the Pearl River County Master Gardeners (PRCMG) for assistance in building raised garden beds.
The PRCMG contributed $100 for lumber to construct nine 4×4 raised beds and an additional $100 for soil. Frank Jackson, a PRCMG member, prepared the materials by cutting and pre-drilling boards and stakes. Students assisted by lining up and staking the beds.
Home Depot representatives visited the site and donated seeds and tools for the project.
The community garden is expected to provide educational opportunities for students and promote sustainable gardening practices.
