Lori Cossitt was recognized at the Picayune City Council meeting for her recent achievement of being crowned Ms. Mississippi Senior. The Ms. Mississippi Senior competition celebrates women over 60, recognizing not only their beauty but also their poise and the significant contributions they make to their communities.
“It’s a beautiful organization that celebrates the positive aspects of aging,” Cossitt said during her remarks. “It’s not just about beauty, but also about what we contribute to our communities.” She also highlighted her involvement with the Cameo Club, an organization associated with the pageant.
A special moment for Cossitt during the pageant was having her mother present, which she described as “very, very special.” She hoped the organization would continue to flourish in Mississippi, supporting women in what she called their “age of elegance.”
The meeting also discussed the Highway 11 Bridge project, which is managed by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). The city engineer informed the council that the city’s involvement had been limited to utility relocation, with MDOT responsible for the remainder of the project. The engineer will contact MDOT for an updated estimate and share it at the next council meeting. Mayor Jim Luke requested a bridge rendering to present to the public.
In other updates, the Ridgecrest sewer project is progressing smoothly. All pumps and tanks have been installed, and services are being worked on. According to officials, the project is moving faster than expected.
