The Picayune Memorial Library has appointed Kaitlyn Molinere as its new branch manager. Molinere, who has been with the library for three years, was promoted last week. She has played a vital role in updating the library’s website, maintaining the events calendar, and managing branding and social media marketing.
Molinere’s responsibilities include assisting patrons with questions, overseeing the circulation desk, and updating library policies. Known for her computer skills and artistic abilities, she has been described as progressive and forward-thinking.
“I never realized this could be a career until I joined the library,” said Molinere, who previously worked as a medical lab technician before transitioning to a role as a circulation clerk during the COVID-19 pandemic. “There have been a lot of changes since Lamont [Pearson] took over, and I’m excited to bring a fresh perspective to the library.”
Lamont Pearson, who has served as the County Library Director for two years, emphasized the importance of meeting the community’s needs by keeping the library’s services—whether computers, books, or digital content—up to date. Under his leadership, the library has been a vital community hub, being one of the first places in the area to offer electricity and internet access for essential services.
Looking ahead, Molinere aims to make the library more inclusive and a place where everyone feels welcome. “I want the library to be a place where people can come and just hang out and exist,” she said.
The library will host a Friends of the Library Appreciation Week with coffee on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the library will give away children’s books at the Halloween festival on Oct. 26 and offer a photo booth.
