Joan McGinty, age 73, passed away peacefully on Sept. 29, 2024 at Forrest General Hospital.  She was born on Jan. 18, 1951 in Poplarville, Miss. to the late Nathaniel Smith and the late Queen Ester Poole Smith Thomas. 

 Joan was a proud graduate of Todd Memorial High School, Poplarville, Miss. and Mississippi Valley State, Itta-Bena, Miss. with a degree in elementary education. She taught school for over 20 years before retiring from the Poplarville School District.  

She was survived by one son, Quincy McGinty;   a step-father, Herbert Thomas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 at Green Grove Baptist Church, Poplarville, Miss. at 12 p.m.  Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
