Board of Supervisors Approves Grants, Acknowledges Certificate

The Board of Supervisors convened on September 3, with all members present. The board approved all agenda items.
Shawn Wise, the county’s Emergency Services Director, presented a grant from Operation Roundup for the Southeast Fire Department. The grant, totaling $8,413, will be used for personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessary equipment. The grant does not require matching funds.
The board also approved applying for the 2024 Data Plot Mobile Forensics LTP Grant. The $27,740 grant will support the Pearl River Sheriff’s Department by funding two software licenses and a physical tool for use in the field. The department will provide a 50% match. This grant aims to enhance the department’s ability to handle cases involving cell phone data by acquiring mobile forensic software and training.
The National Association of Victims of Crime Act Assistance Administration sent a Certificate of Appreciation to the board in recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week. The board acknowledged receipt of the certificate.
Lindsay Ward, the County Economic Development Director, provided an update on zoning changes for a 25.5-acre parcel near Exit 27. She noted that the zoning commission has delayed its recommendation to the board of aldermen.
