Heritage Christian Academy (HCA) hosted its first-ever varsity football game on Friday, taking on Discovery Christian in an 8-on-8 matchup. Despite showing flashes of potential, HCA fell to Discovery Christian with a final score of 50-0.
In its inaugural varsity season under head coach Richard Shofstall, HCA faced several challenges throughout the game. The team struggled with minor errors, such as high snaps, missed blocks, and botched handoffs, hampered their ability to sustain drives and capitalize on positive moments.
Given the smaller rosters, both teams played 8-on-8 instead of the traditional 11-on-11, which amplified the impact of each mistake. While HCA had periods where they looked competitive, these small mistakes proved challenging to overcome repeatedly.
After the game, Shofstall acknowledged the team’s need for improvement. “We just gotta learn; we got a lot of young guys—some have only been here a couple of weeks—so we are going to bounce back, and we are going to get better,” he said.
HCA will head to Pine Belt this Friday kickoff is at 7 p.m.
