Esther Long

Esther Foster Long departed this life peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the age of 95 at her home in Hide-A-Way Lake surrounded by her family members.  Esther was born on June 28, 1928,  to Walker “W. O. Buck” Foster and Wilma Frances McCormick Foster in Houston, Texas.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life,  her husband of 70 years, Thomas R. Long and daughter, Karen Jean Long.  

 

Esther is survived by her son, Charles R. Long and wife Martha; daughter, Carol L. Walker and husband David;  granddaughter, Victoria L. Kaar and husband Cody; great grandson, Theodore M. Kaar; sister, Carol F. Mussemann and husband Glenn; nieces Bonnie M. Pate and husband Charlie; Stephanie M. Ragsdale and husband Scott; nephews, Gary Mussemann and wife Karen; and Dr. Frank Mussemann and wife Dr. Helen; numerous great nieces and nephews; and 2 great great nieces.  

 

Esther resided in Gretna, LA for forty plus years raising her children and establishing lifelong friendships.  As a mother, Esther, followed the teaching of the Bible raising her children to love, honor, and cherish each day one is given.   As an educator, she taught kindergarten and first grade at Aurora Gardens Academy from the early 1970’s to 1990.  Esther greatest joy were being with and taking care of her family and traveling with Tommy.  

 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 9:30 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3021 Woods Road, Picayune, MS.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until 9:30 am, service time.  Interment will be Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:30 am in Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, LA.  Pastor Beth Rolfs will officiate the services.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3021 Woods Road, Picayune, MS or  Hide-A-Way-Lake Club Inc. tree program, 510 E. Lakeshore Drive, Carriere, MS.
