The Poplarville Board of Aldermen accepted the resignation of Board member Tony Smith and set a special election date to elect a new Board member.
The Board approved compensating poll workers for the August 4 Mississippi Power franchise fee election at a rate of $125 per day. Mississippi Power will cover the cost of holding that election. The Board also approved compensating poll workers at the same rate for the Alderman at Large special election on August 25.
In a separate matter, Jason Lamb with The Walker Associates updated the Board on road paving for the 2019 Road Paving and Drainage project. The project is funded by a general obligation bond, paid for by gas severance tax.
The contractor is expected to complete paving work in Poplarville sometime this or next week, depending on the weather, said Lamb. The next work location will be East Dove Street.
The work needs to be completed in September.
Lamb also said that the work to pave the ditch off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive is expected to progress near the end of the week or the start of next week.
In other business the Board:
—Approved engaging Mike Patton to complete title work for drainage easements along North Jackson Street.
—Appointed Janet Kennedy to the three person election commission.
The Board set a budget workshop date for July 30 at 5 p.m.
The meeting is planned to be held over Zoom and live streamed on Facebook Live.
