Wednesday, the Farmers Market of Picayune was open for customers to walk through rather than drive-thru. The farmers market had transitioned to drive-thru only due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but has since reopened for customers to walk through again. A drive-thru option was still offered for customers who needed it.
The Farmers Market of Picayune is a go-to for anyone looking for homemade baked goods, fresh produce and even pickled quail eggs.
Jessica Helgerson sells homegrown vegetables and produce at her booth at the farmers market. The vegetables are picked fresh from her garden. Helgerson said she has been gardening for more than five years.
“I really enjoy the farmers market,” Helgerson said. “I enjoy the rustic feel about it.”
Helgerson said her favorite thing to grow in her garden is green beans.
“They are the tastiest,” Helgerson said.
Jerica Luxich sells spiced crackers and jalapeño cream cheese dip at the Farmers Market of Picayune with her young daughter.
The pair has been attending the farmers market for about a year.
“We do it as a hobby,” Luxich said.
Ashley Scott, another Farmers Market of Picayune vendor first started selling her products at the farmers market a few months ago. She sells pickled quail eggs, salsa, jams, jellies, apple butter and more.
All of Scott’s products are homemade.
“I love [the farmers market],” Scott said. “It helps people get foods they wouldn’t find in the store. It’s without all the preservatives they use in stores.”
The Farmers Market of Picayune is located at 210 Hwy 11 behind the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce building. It is open on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
