Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Poplarville will hold an Easter celebration event complete with egg hunt, fun jumps and exotic animals on Saturday.
The event, called Eggstravaganza, will be held at the Town Green from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and offer a number of activities for youngsters.
Chamber Secretary Michele Lewis said this year’s event will be bigger and better than previous years.
Children can participate in potato sack races, ring toss, bean bag toss, a fun jumper, face painting and a chance to see some exotic snakes, reptiles and amphibians up close. The live animals are being brought to the event by Safari T.A.I.L.S. out of Lumberton and will be in cages, Lewis said.
“I’m excited to see that,” Lewis said.
A set of four tickets will be raffled off at the event to Safari T.A.I.L.S., a $140 value. Lewis said the raffle tickets are $5 a piece.
Easter egg hunts will start at 1 p.m. and participants will be separated into age groups. Lewis said a special section will also be set aside for children with disabilities.
The eggs for this event were filled by various Poplarville area businesses, and some of the eggs will contain a ticket that can be turned in for prizes, such as stuffed animals and backpacks with a surprise.
Lewis said that this year’s event has grown with the support of the Kiwanis Club of Poplarville, who sponsored the fun jumper and did a lot of the legwork.
Pearl River Community College and the Early Childhood Academy have sponsored the Easter Bunny and children’s books. Lewis said that every child who attends the event will receive a free book.
Concessions such as cotton candy and drinks will be for sale to help offset the cost of the event.
