Men’s book club to meet Tuesday

A book club for men will hold its first meeting on Tuesday at the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library in Holland Hall.
Skip Rigney, organizer of the new club called Men’s Book Discussion Group, said he’s wanted to start a men’s book club for several years, so he recently approached the staff at the library since that would be the ideal venue.
Rigney said he loves to read, and is interested in discovering new genres and authors, so the best way to do that is to hear about books other people are reading.
At times, Rigney said he will listen to podcasts about books that are worth reading, but this new club will give him an opportunity to meet other book lovers face to face.
This book club will not require members to read the same books, but rather have discussions about any book currently being enjoyed.
Rigney said he chose to start a men’s book club because men may feel more confortable talking about books with other men.
The kickoff meeting is set for Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. in Holland Hall of the Picayune library.
His plan is to hold meetings once or twice a month on Tuesday’s for about an hour or two until May. At that point the future of the group will be assessed.
