Quilting in South Mississippi event at library

The Friends of Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library will be hosting a Quilting in South Mississippi event Sunday that will feature demonstrations and door prizes.
Crosby Library Circulation Assistant Donna Spiers said they have been planning the event for several months. Since quilting events are taking place across Mississippi this month, they decided to hold an event about quilting in South Mississippi. The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will be free to the public.
Diane Williams with the Historic Journey of African American Quilters will give a presentation about African American quilters in Mississippi. Members of the Picayune Piecemakers will also be at the event and give a demonstration on beginning quilting, Spiers said. A quilting display will also be in the library’s foyer.
At the end of the event, there will be a raffle for a basket full of quilting supplies or one of three quilts. There will also be a variety of door prizes, Spiers said. Raffle tickets will be $1 per ticket or $5 for six.
Spiers said this is one of many events that will take place at the library in the coming months. All proceeds from the event will be used to rebuild the library’s circulation desk and make it handicap accessible, she said.
“It’s going to be a wonderful event,” Spiers said.
Spiers said raffle tickets can be purchased ahead of time or on the day of the event.
