This year’s Poplarville Farmers Market experienced a growth in the number of vendors compared to last year.
Each season, the county seat’s farmers market brings together people who offer homegrown produce and other unique items.
Organizers of the event continue to work to attract increased participation with each new season.
Event organizer April Grecho, said she has seen growth in the number of vendors and customers this year.
She said this year’s spring season of the market included about 10-12 vendors. By the last day of the season, it had grown to about 18 vendors, exhibiting a pattern of growth compared to previous years.
Grecho said about six new vendors participated when compared to last year.
This year’s Poplarville Farmers Market showcased a variety of new items including handmade leather goods, homemade bread, fresh jam, homemade dog treats among several other things, she said. Pet owners could even have their furry friend’s nails clipped, Grecho said.
Grecho said the positive response from the community has been encouraging.
Another farmers market will be held in the fall, starting on Sept. 6 and lasting until mid-December.
A webpage including information about the farmers market is under construction, with a launch expected by the end of this summer.
Booths can be rented for $10 per day, or spaces can be reserved for the entire season. Grecho said that when an entire season is paid for in advance, the vendor receives a discount in the form of about two days for free.
