Kiwanis of Poplarville is currently seeking donations for a school uniform giveaway to benefit children in the Poplarville School District.
Kiwanis Chairman Crisper Stanford, said on August 3, the Poplarville Kiwanis Club will meet in the Poplarville Middle School gymnasium to hand out free uniforms to families in need. To make sure there are enough uniforms for everyone who needs one, Stanford said the club is asking for donations until August 1.
Until that date, uniforms can be donated at the chancery clerk’s office, at First National, Hancock Whitney or BankPlus. Stanford said people are welcome to donate new or slightly used uniforms of any size. For shirts, the uniform colors are green, grey and gold. Khakis are the requirement for pants. Uniforms are required from elementary through high school, so Stanford said any size uniform is greatly appreciated
The Kiwanis Club itself purchased a large number of uniforms, Stanford said. He said they wanted to make sure that there were plenty of uniforms to choose from just in case not many donations came in. However, Stanford said they have already seen an influx of donations. So far, between the purchased uniforms and those already donated, more than two hundred have been gathered.
Stanford said the Kiwanis Club is an organization dedicated to helping children. He said since school is coming up, members of the Poplarville division got together to see how they could best serve the community. Paying for school supplies for children can be difficult – especially if a family has more than one child in school at once, Stanford said. After reaching out to the district, they were informed that uniforms are one of the biggest needs families in Poplarville have, so the Club decided to help.
Stanford pointed out that if families are able to donate, it is a great way to give back to the community.
