The Senior Center of South Pearl River County is hosting the third annual senior games event on May 17 and 18 that will feature fun, games and competitive events.

David Sykes, executive director of the center, said the event allows the center to raise funds that keeps the facility operational. The event is a day where senior citizens can not only compete in games but also win prizes.

Sykes said the center regularly promotes health and wellness among its members and this event is a great way to encourage them to be active while having a good time.

The two-day event will feature archery, beanbag baseball, corn hole, darts, horseshoes, road race walk, track and field and Wii bowling.

Senior Center member Geri Lisotta has been a participant in the event, winning the archery competition last year. She said she is looking forward to another year of games.

“The camaraderie with the people is fun, there is great sportsmanship among people participating and this year we hope to have a lot more participants,” Lisotta said.

Last year, the center raised $4,500 through the event and expects to raise more this year, Sykes said.

On the second day, there will be a “Celebration of Athletes Luncheon” starting at noon where athletes who placed first, second and third will receive their medals, Sykes said.

The cost to register is $15 per person and includes a T-shirt. The registration deadline is May 15.

Registration forms can be downloaded from www.prcseniorcenter.org , or picked up at the Senior Center.
