Monday’s Poplarville School Board of Trustees meeting began with Poplarville Fire Chief Jonathan Head presenting the Healthy Heroes Program grant.
Head said the grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield will help students adopt a healthy lifestyle through exercise and proper diet.
He said the grant would allow public safety officers to spend some time with children of pre-K to fifth grade so they can learn to appreciate those who serve the public.
In order to receive the grant, the program calls for a class focusing on health to be held during the District’s calendar year.
Head said the grant also requires the installation of exercise equipment in City Park.
The Board approved a motion to move forward with meeting the grant’s requirements.
In other matters, Superintendent Carl Merritt presented a certificate of appreciation to Finance Director Samantha Sandifer, Assistant Payroll Clerk Lea Smith and District Secretary Conchetta Heath for their commitment and contributions to the District.
“I cannot tell you how hard they all work to get the right information to us,” Merritt said.
The Board also approved a motion to provide additional services for children with disabilities during summer, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy and psychological services.
