Picayune Police officers are working two commercial burglaries that are suspected to have occurred the same night and involved the same suspect or suspects.

Officers responded to Goodwill, located on Palestine Road, to find the back doors open and a front window broken out via a concrete paver, the report states.

Investigation into the incident showed that the door to the office and a bathroom had been forced open, and a cash register and safe were missing from the business.

The register was later found outside the business on a nearby picnic table, and the safe was found in a shopping cart near a fence nearby, still locked, the report states.

No suspects have been identified at this time, but Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said investigators are working on leads to establish a person or persons of interest.

Later that same morning, the department received a call from representatives of the Sunflower grocery store across the street from Goodwill to report that it appeared someone attempted to break into the business.

Investigation into the crime determined that the crime probably occurred sometime before midnight, and the suspect or suspects attempted to gain entry to the business through a vent but were unsuccessful. Several cameras appeared to have been damaged during the attempted break-in

Magri said that it appears that nothing was taken in the attempt.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the police department at 601-798-7411.
