Maroon Tide and Hornets lose district games

A walk-off homerun by North Pike’s Jimbo Harrell in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the team a 5-4 victory over Picayune Tuesday night.
With the loss, the Maroon Tide (8-10, 0-7 Region 7-5A) is now eliminated from the postseason.
Picayune Head Coach Cody Stogner said the Maroon Tide took the lead in the first inning when Kyler Lauga scored after Chad Stockstill batted the ball into left field.
The Jaguars quickly responded in the bottom of the first when Gage Harbour and Kran Howell scored one run each.
During the top of the third inning, Lauga tied the game for the Maroon Tide after, once again, Stockstill hit the ball into left field.
The partnership between Stockstill and Lauga paid off in the fifth inning when Stockstill doubled to left field and Lauga scored from first base.
The score by the Maroon Tide gave the team a 3-2 lead.
Picayune’s Braxton Hatten extended the team’s lead 4-2 when a wild pitch by North Pike’s Cade Killingsworth, allowed him to reach home plate.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, scores by North Pike’s Austin Fortenberry and Harrell tied the game at 4 runs each and sent the game into an extra inning.
For the Maroon Tide, Dylan Ramsay and Elisha Hickman saw playing time on the mound.
Picayune will resume play Friday night at 7 p.m. when the team will be hosted by Hattiesburg.
— Poplarville baseball: The Hornets lost 18-0 against Purvis in a five inning game Tuesday night. The Tornadoes scored 10 runs in the second inning and four in the third and fourth innings. For Poplarville, Canaan Ray went 2-for-2 while at-bat.
Jordan Belsome and Dartanyon Wilcox pitched two innings each.
The Hornets (8-10, 4-3 Region 7-4A) will be back in action Friday night when the team hosts Purvis at 7 p.m.
