Three people were recently arrested due to their suspected involvement in the death of 28-year-old Justin Nixon.
Nixon’s remains were found in a yard at 203 Jarrell St. more than 20 hours after he was shot to death in the area, according to previous coverage. Initial investigation into the case led to the arrest of Nixon’s cousin, Malcolm Nixon, 27 of 304 Jarrell St., for the unrelated offenses of possession of marijuana and a hold with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Investigators with the Picayune Police Department have been looking into the case to determine who could have been involved in Nixon’s death.
Picayune Police Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said that three people were arrested Wednesday in relation to that investigation.
As a result, Malcolm Nixon was additionally arrested for first degree murder and is now being held on a $1 million bond, Magri said.
Also, Malcolm Nixon’s girlfriend Ashlyn Cheramie, 21, of 22 Blueberry Hill, Carriere and his mother, Mahala Burkett, 65 of 304 Jarrell St., were both arrested for hindering prosecution and are being held on a $100,000 bond each, Magri said.
Since the investigation is ongoing, Magri said he could not elaborate on the evidence that led to the additional arrests at press time.
