Lady Devils defeat non-region opponent; Lady Tide earn district victory and Lady Hornets fall

The Lady Devils rallied from an early deficit to a 9-8 victory against D’Iberville Tuesday night.
Head Coach Tony LaBella said that after the first inning of play, the Lady Warriors held a 7-1 lead but Pearl River Central (13-1, 2-0 Region 7-5A) slowly cut the deficit in the following innings. The Lady Devils scored one run in the second and four runs in the fifth to cut D’Iberville’s lead to only one score. PRC tied the game in the sixth inning.
D’Iberville scored once in the top of seventh but two runs in the bottom of the inning by PRC, gave the team the win.
Taylor Kauzlarich batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple, Keigan Pearson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles and Jade Latham was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Brienne Penton and Madison Gower also had an RBI each.
On the mound, Latham pitched seven innings and allowed five hits, two runs and struck out 10 batters.
The Lady Devils will play the Lady Hornets in a double header Saturday morning at Poplarville. The first game is set to begin at 10 a.m.
—Poplarville softball: In a game that was decided in nine innings, the Lady Hornets lost 7-4 against the Lady Cougars Tuesday night. Facing a 3-2 deficit, Poplarville (10-5, 3-2 Region 7-4A) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to send it into extra innings.
After both teams went scoreless in the eighth, Lawrence County scored four runs in the ninth. Poplarville’s attempt to tie the game fell short, after only being able to score once.
Rakeya Travis was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and an RBI, Cassidy Cartwright went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Madison Pittman batted 1-for-3 with a triple.
Poplarville’s Gracie Raby and Victoria Pertuit both saw playing time on the mound. Raby pitched four innings and allowed four hits, two runs and struck out four batters. Pertuit played for five innings and allowed seven hits, four runs and struck out two batters.
The Lady Hornets will host PRC in a varsity doubleheader Saturday. The first game will begin at 10 a.m.
—Picayune softball: The Lady Tide defeated the Lady Tigers 17-2 Tuesday night and lost 8-5 against the Lady Jaguars Wednesday night.
Picayune (2-15, 1-2 Region 7-5A) will be back in action April 5, when the team hosts St. Martin at 7 p.m.
