Poplarville Head Start is currently recruiting students for the up-coming 2018-2019 school year.
The recruitment drive is ongoing and applications for the program can be acquired at the school Monday to Friday at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Poplarville Head Start is located on 205 East Locke Street.
Carol Avery, center administrator for Poplarville Head Start, said recruitment typically begins in September and runs until March.
“For our present school term we are currently accepting applications for 10 4-year olds. For the next academic year, we are looking to enroll at least 30 children,” Avery said.
Poplarville Head Start operates under Mississippi Action for Progress, Inc.
According to a release from the school, MAP Head Start is designed not only to serve the children, but also to serve as a catalyst for change and development of a broad range of programs, which meet the needs of disadvantaged communities.
Avery said children aged 3-4 years and a few 5-year-olds receive care and instruction that not only helps develop motor skills, but also prepares them for kindergarten.
In order for a child to be eligible, the child must be 3-years-old before September 1, 2018. Parents or guardians will also be required to bring their child’s birth certificate, shot record (Form 121), medical card, last screening, verification of household income and social security card.
