City employees are currently providing sandbags in preparation of what will be Hurricane Nate. Public Works Director Eric Morris said that each home can receive a maximum of 10 sandbags. Satellite sandbag stations are set up across the city as well.
Two of the sites previously announced were changed.
The site previously set for the corner of Kendrick Lane and Beech Street has been moved to the church on Kendrick Lane and the site previously planned for the corner of Blanks Avenue and Baylous Street has been moved to the parking lot at the corner of North Haugh Avenue and Fourth Street.
The sites at Pinewood Drive and Mildred Mitchell Park on Sycamore Road are still the same.
A special call Council meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. today to determine whether the city will declare a state of emergency.
The sites will be open until 5 p.m. today. The city barn will reopen at 7 a.m. Saturday to begin handing out sandbags again. It will remain open until noon.
Senior citizens, the handicapped and shut-ins needing sandbags delivered to their home can call Public Works until 5:30 today at 601-798-9770.
Sandbag sites will reopen in the morning Saturday.
