Picayune Police investigating crime at local check cashing business

Picayune Police responded to an armed robbery of a check advance store Tuesday morning near Highway 11 and Memorial Boulevard.
Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said officers responded to Check Into Cash at 807 Highway 11 North Suite B at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday in reference to an armed robbery in progress.
Upon arrival, employees told officers that the suspect, described as a black male, entered the store, displayed a pistol and demanded cash, Magri said.
After being given an undetermined amount of cash, the suspect fled the scene. Numerous officers from the Picayune Police Department, with assistance from the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, set up a perimeter in the area, Magri said.
A person of interest was identified and taken into custody after a short foot pursuit in the Grande Oaks apartment complex, he said.
The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, but his name is not being released at press time due to the pending investigation, Magri said.
