Easy employment should be available for those who serve our country

Deciding to serve in our military is no easy decision. It’s not an easy decision to put your name on a list to be called at any moment and sent anywhere in the event of disaster or war.
It’s not easy to leave behind family and friends. But due to this sacrifice, it should be easy to find a job.
The Picayune Police Department was recently
recognized for the third time in less than three years for having the patriotism not only to employ these service men and women, but also to provide them with a work
environment that will allow them to thrive. Such sacrifices shouldn’t be met with more difficulties back home.
With the skills and training these officers have already received through the military, working for a law enforcement agency is a natural fit.
These officers have already been trained physically, mentally and intellectually to deal with crisis situations. Those situations, unfortunately, appear far more often in our country. Having trained officers who are accustomed to seeing potentially dangerous situations can also help deescalate situations.
On the other hand, some servicemen and women may choose to work in other industries. They should not be penalized for the time off they take to serve our country.
They too have valuable skills to bring to the table, like leadership, organization and an understanding of what is right and just. Having quality employees like that on staff are significant additions to any team.
We should all remember that these service men and women help keep us safe.
The Picayune Police Department has done a commendable job of employing these Guardsmen and helping them spend whatever time they can with their families.
