Last year, Picayune a restaurant unlike any other opened in town. On May 27, 2016, Stephanie Johnson moved to Picayune from Kansas with a passion to start her own business. She said she wanted to be in a small town where customers feel like family and she would be proud to call home. After her arrival to town, she decided to establish Johnson’s Station with a unique goal in mind.
“I know how hard it is to find things to do when you live in a small town, so I wanted to provide something for everyone to do every day,” Johnson said.
At Johnson’s Station, she strategically mapped out a fun activity for each day of the week, including a corn hole tournament on Sunday, movie night on Monday, a pool league on Tuesday, trivia night on Wednesday, open mic and karaoke night on Thursday, a D.J. and live music on Friday and more live music and a lip sync battle on Saturday.
Johnson’s Station is also unique in that it is open every day of the week. Monday through Friday the hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the restaurant and bar are open until 10 p.m.
Johnson said that when she initially decided to open her own restaurant in Picayune, she was unsure of how much support she would receive from the community because she knew her restaurant had an initial appearance as a bar. However, she said the community has been nothing short of amazing during her first year in business.
“Johnson’s Station is much more than a bar. It’s a special place where church groups, police officers and families with young children can all come and feel comfortable while enjoying a great meal,” Johnson said.
The menu at Johnson’s Station consists of burgers, nachos, pizza and much more. Even though the menu is not extensive, Johnson said the food is delicious.
“I would eat here every day. Everything on the menu is homemade and fresh. We take a lot of pride in how the food tastes and I am very lucky to have an amazing crew in the kitchen. Johnson’s Station wouldn’t be what is it without them,” Johnson said.
The local business owner said she hopes more people in Picayune and the neighboring communities will realize they don’t have to travel far to enjoy a nice meal and inviting atmosphere.
“We like to have fun at Johnson’s Station. Our customers are always our first priority,” she said.
Johnson’s Station is located at 112 Elizabeth Street in Picayune and can be reached at 769-242-0241.
