It’s every child’s dream to meet one of their favorite movie or cartoon characters. Those dreams are becoming reality in Pearl River County at Princess Parties “R” Us.
The business has been operational for eight weeks.
Toni Contreras moved to Poplarville eight years ago from New Orleans, bringing her love of photography with her. She slowly reestablished her photography business after losing everything but a single clump of pictures in Hurricane Katrina.
Now, she hopes to repay the love the community of Poplarville showed her by bringing a little bit of magic to the city.
Princess Parties “R” Us is available for community events, birthday parties, fundraisers and sometimes they can be spotted walking down Main Street on a Friday afternoon.
So far, Contreras said they’ve organized photo booths at events like the Pearl River County Relay for Life and Poplarville’s Trash For Treasure.
But for Contreras and her group of characters, many of them local high school students, it’s all about creating special memories.
“Seeing the kids’ faces makes it worth it,” she said.
She now has about 16 characters ready to liven up any event. Moving forward, Princess Parties “R” Us will participate in the Blueberry Jubilee, a father daughter dance, the Crawfish Family Fun Day at Greer’s and visit the children’s hospital in Jackson, Contreras said.
They also host parties at Scooter’s restaurant so families can come to them without the hassle of cleanup, she said.
With the opening of the tea room at JD Farms, Contreras said she hopes to hold princess tea parties there soon.
Contreras is opening up a party location at 414 South Main Street in Poplarville to host local events.
