Parents and community members will have an opportunity to participate in a fundraising event that will feature a play and silent auction to benefit Heritage Christian Academy.
The event will be held Friday at the Link on Goodyear Boulevard from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets to attend the event are $10, which will cover admission and a bag of popcorn, said Morgan Altom, who is co-directing a play the students will put on during the event. Additional food items will be available for purchase.
The play is called “Mother Goose Has Flown the Coop” and it will include references to 28 nursery rhymes.
In the play, Mother Goose is missing, and it’s up to Hickory, Dickory and Dock to find her. Altom said the children have been practicing the play since February and also put their artistic touches on the backdrops.
“These kids worked very hard on this and I’m extremely proud of them,” Altom said.
A silent auction will also be held during the event, offering a variety of items such as gift cards to local businesses, Saints game tickets, tickets to a Mississippi State football game on Oct. 21, tickets to an Ole Miss football game on Oct. 28 and season tickets to the University of Southern Mississippi football games. In all there will be more than 30 items or services to bid on.
Heritage Christian Academy Board member Brooks Wallace said the children will be selling some of the art they made this year during the fundraiser. Each child will be on hand during the event to give a description of the art they made.
All proceeds from the event will help pay for the construction of the school’s new facility, located on Richardson Road. Wallace said construction of the facility is on target, and expects it to be ready for the next school year in August.
