Billy Ray Young

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Triumph Missionary Baptist Church of Poplarville. Pastor Tommy Hart will officiate at the service.
On July 9, 1951, the Lord blessed the late Earnest and Johnell Young with a baby boy whom they would name Billy Ray Young. He was the fifth born child of sixteen.
Billy Ray met and was united in holy matrimony to the late Christine Tillman Young on July 26, 1975 and they have two loving children.
On October 19, 2015, Billy Ray made his profession of faith to join the church. On October 25, 2015, Billy Ray was baptized at Triumph Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Tommy Hart where he became a member of the Brotherhood.
Billy Ray worked with Wallace Drennan, Inc. of New Orleans, LA and Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department for number of years. After retiring, in his spare time, he would go fishing and help out at a local food bank, “The Barn,” distributing food to those in need.
Billy Ray ended his earthly walk to begin his heavenly journey on August 25, 2016 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Christine Young, his parents, Earnest and Johnell Young and five siblings: Howard Earl and Jerry Young, Earnestine Hogan, Juanita Lee and Melissa Osgood.
Billy Ray leaves to cherish his memory: five sons, Billy (Charmane) Young of Lumberton, MS; Vincent (Tanesha) Young of Clarksville, TN; Kelby (Coretta) Young of Poplarville, MS; Desmond (Nellisha) Bolar of Purvis, MS; and Frederick (Bridgett) Parker of Gautier, MS; one God-daughter, Moriah Silas of Poplarville, MS. Ten siblings, Walter (Juanita) Young, Sr., Annie Harris, Margaret Ray, Clarence (Yvonne) Young, Robert Lewis (Aretha) Young, Sr., Fred (Beejay) Young and Mark Young all of Purvis, MS, Loretta McCalpine of Pascagoula, MS, Brenda (Stanley) Rodgers of Gautier, MS, and Felicia Young of Oak Grove, MS; Three brothersin-law, Thomas (Edith) Tillman of Hutchinson, KS, Paul Terry Tillman of Varnado, LA and Sidney Tillman of Poplarville, MS; two sisters-in-law, Paulette Jackson of Meridian, MS and Gail Tillman of Poplarville, MS; seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild. A special cousin, Allen (Claudette) Young of Poplarville, MS and two special friends: Mary Silas of Poplarville, MS and Rev. George Tillman of Carriere, MS; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be at Rose Park Cemetery in Poplarville.
Services are entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home.
