A new restaurant opened its doors Monday; Logan’s Famous Chicken and Tenders now offers fresh home cooked meals combined with friendly service.
Even though the location has changed, most Pearl River County residents will recognize the menu and friendly people behind the counter as the previous owners of several Logan’s Quick Stops.
Their new business is located at 195 Memorial Boulevard in Picayune.
Owner Dewayne Frierson is experienced in running a business. His business management experience goes back further than the convenience stores. For about a decade he managed a corporate chain of restaurants, after which, about 15 years ago, opened Logan’s Quick Stop in Nicholson. The business soon expanded to three other locations, all within Pearl River County, one on Beech Street in Picayune, another in Poplarville and the fourth in Carriere.
While running the convenience stores he sold a number of the items now on the Logan’s menu.
“I used to say that we were a restaurant that happened to sell fuel,” Frierson said.
Prior to opening the new restaurant, Frierson said he sold off all four of the convenience stores.
He purchased the building on Memorial Boulevard on May 16, and in only 45 days completed interior and exterior renovations. That work created a rustic interior with a Christian theme featuring verses from the Bible about food. The verses are painted onto repurposed pallets. On the wall facing the boulevard are frames housing jerseys from two local high schools, Pearl River Central and Picayune Memorial.
The menu features fresh never frozen chicken, both bone in cuts and tenders. Customers can select from seafood po-boys, the Philly cheesesteak and the Logan’s po-boy. Frierson said the Logan’s po-boy is a unique sandwich that combines fried shrimp, turkey, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and jalapenos. It’s one of their signature dishes served for the past 15 years.
Family meals and party packs are also available, a service Frierson provided to the community with his previous business ventures.
What sets Logan’s apart from the rest is quality, Frierson said.
Customers who like chicken livers and gizzards can find them at Logan’s.
A daily lunch buffet is offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Frierson said the buffet features fried chicken, chicken tenders, chicken liver and gizzards, and one of several other meats throughout the week, such as hamburger steak, pork chops or baked chicken. A variety of sides will also be on the buffet, including turnip greens, macaroni and cheese, green beans, squash and rutabaga. A salad bar, drink and dessert also come with the buffet, all for one flat price including tax.
“You can come here and get a nice home cooked meal for $10,” Frierson said about the buffet.
In addition to sodas, the restaurant also offers their store made sweet and unsweet tea.
He also has plans to offer special deals to local merchants and help feed the local teams during home games.
Local business Barousse Designs created the menus for Logan’s, Frierson said.
