Monday morning a pedestrian stepped into traffic and collided with the side of a vehicle.
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. along Highway 43 North in the eastbound lane.
Item staff observed a man standing in the median. It appeared as though he was going to cross the street, but then saw vehicles, and stopped, before attempting to cross the street again.
At that time the man entered the road, and impacted the side of a passing vehicle, falling to the ground and ending up on his back in the median.
The man lay there until emergency personnel arrived to assess his injuries. He maintained consciousness and did not appear to be bleeding.
According to traffic on the police band, the man was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The driver of the vehicle stopped to ensure the man was ok and provided a statement to law enforcement. Capt. Chad Dorn with the Picayune Police Department said the driver was not charged, and the man was transported for minor injuries.
Later on Monday just before noon, near the intersection of Highway 11 North and Highway 43 North, a gold Ford Expedition hit the rear end of a stopped Chevrolet Silverado, causing the Silverado to strike a stopped grey Toyota Tacoma, said Capt. James Bolton of the Picayune Police Department.
Only minor injuries were reported. Airbags were deployed in the Expedition.
