On May 31 at 6:20 p.m. officers with the Poplarville Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcyclist.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 11 and West Moody Street in front of the Pearl River County Hospital and Nursing Home, Poplarville Police Chief Butch Raby said.
The motorcyclist, 24-year-old Robert Pullens of Poplarville, was traveling southbound on Hwy. 11 when a Jeep wagon traveling north on Highway 11, driven by 21-year-old John Bellamy of Poplarville, turned left in front of the motorcycle onto West Moody Street, Raby said.
The motorcyclist struck the side of the Jeep, Raby said.
Bellamy was not injured in the accident. However, Pullens sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Pearl River County Hospital where medical personnel stabilized him, Raby said.
Pullens was then transported via Rescue 7 critical care transport helicopter to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Raby said.
Raby said officers placed a call to the hospital at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and were told Pullens was in surgery, but was stable.
“We have no reason to believe this was a drug or alcohol related accident,” Raby said. “During the summer months, there are more bikers on the road. I urge drivers to pay attention and be more aware. Always be on the lookout for them driving their bikes in this nice weather.”
