The public is invited to an event which will recognize a World War II fighter pilot for his service to our nation. It is set for Sunday at noon at the Poplarville airport,.
VFW member Michael Holliday said the event will honor Pearl River County resident Joseph H. Farrell, who was a fighter pilot during the second world war. During the event, they will present Farrell with a certificate and American flag.
As entertainment, local pilots will fly their planes overhead as and conduct a ping-pong ball drop. Holliday said the event is open to the public and will have free hamburgers, hotdogs and other refreshments. Attendees can purchase tickets for the ping-pong ball drop, the proceeds of which will be split between the winner and the VFW.
It will begin at noon on Sunday and last until the crowd disperses.
