On Feb. 17 at 10 a.m., 911 operators received a call regarding a structure fire at 109 Roy Street in Picayune, Pearl River County Fire Marshal Albert Lee said.
Firefighters from Nicholson, Pine Grove, South East, Carriere and Picayune Fire Departments responded to the fire at about 10:15 a.m., Lee said.
At the time of the call, first responders were informed a baby might be inside the structure. However, soon after arrival, all units were advised that the mother had gotten the baby out of the structure, Lee said.
By 11:40 a.m., firefighters had the fire under control, the fire marshal said.
However, to Lee’s knowledge, the structure did not have smoke detectors installed.
“The smoke detectors would have given them an earlier warning, had they had them installed,” Lee said. “It’s important to have smoke detectors in your home.”
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire appears to be electrical, Lee said.
