Holiday hours: With Christmas on Friday, best to get bills paid, shopping done early

In order to prepare for Santa Claus’s arrival on Christmas Eve, many businesses and government offices throughout Pearl River County will be closed later this week in observance of the holiday.
All county and city offices in both Picayune and Poplarville will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 and will resume normal business hours Dec. 28.
Picayune City Manager Jim Luke, city council members and Picayune Mayor Ed Pinero wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
“I wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” Pinero said.
Picayune residents can expect garbage pick-up to be moved back a day. Those homeowners who have their trash collected on Friday will have it collected on Dec. 26.
The Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial and Poplarville Public libraries will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 26 in observance of the holiday. Both libraries will resume their normal hours on Dec. 28.
For those looking to do some last-minute Christmas shopping, both Winn-Dixie grocery stores, Walmart and Claiborne Hill will have regular hours all week, but will be closed on Dec. 25.
Many pharmacies in Picayune will be closed on Dec. 25, but customers will have a chance to pick up items on Dec. 24. On Christmas Eve, Picayune Drug Co. will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., City Rexall Drugs will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fred’s Westside Pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Rite Aid will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 and the pharmacy hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The CVS on Highway 43 North will be open its regular hours on Dec. 24 and the pharmacy will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CVS’s pharmacy will be closed on Dec. 25, but the store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Walgreens on Highway 43 will be open on Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to midnight, and the pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Walgreens on Highway 11 will be open Dec. 24 from 7 a.m. to midnight, and the pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both pharmacies will be closed Dec. 25, but the stores will remain open.
In Poplarville, Boone’s pharmacy in Poplarville will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 24. Fred’s will be open Dec. 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ramey’s grocery store will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 24. All of these stores in Poplarville will be closed on Dec. 25.
