POPLARVILLE — The Lady Blue Devils went on the road to Poplarville and improved to 3-1 on the season with a 61-49 win.
Senior guard Claire Lumpkin led the way with 16 points, six assists and six steals. Other top performers for PRC included sophomore forward Brooklyn Howe with 12 points, five rebounds and four steals and freshman guard Harlee Davis with 13 points, six rebounds and four steals.
The Lady Hornets fell to 0-2 on the season and were plagued by turnovers—they had 28 to PRC’s 14 which really was the difference in the game. Poplarville looked predominately to junior forward Zanaisha Turner who couldn’t be stopped with a total of 32 points. Sophomore Jasmine Merrill chipped in with 13 points.
PRC Head Coach Tony LaBella was encouraged by the win, but still sees room for improvement.
“We kind of wanted to make it a fast-paced game by playing a lot of guards in the lineup. We’re happy that we were able to make it a frantic pace, but we have to finish better by the end of halves and quarters, we just give away a lot of points at the end of halves and quarters,” LaBella said.
