Seats paid for: Pearl River school board pays $40K for new bleachers

Two major expenditures for the Pearl River County School District passed unanimously in Monday’s Board of Education meeting. The first, issue was to “consider approving payment to C. Perry Builders, Inc. in the amount of $40,637 for the bleacher project.”
The bleacher project was the installation of new seatig for the football stadium at Pearl River Central High School. School Board Member Jeremy Weir cited one of the reasons for the project was because previous bleachers were old and posed a safety risk.
The other big-ticket item was to “consider approving the purchase of a 2017 Blue Bird Vision, Special Needs School Bus to replace bus #110 in the amount of $87,765.00.” This also passed unanimously.
Ron Sperrier, from the Knights of Columbus, presented the school district
with a check for $926 toward special education in the district. They accumulated the money from selling Tootsie Rolls during this weekend’s fundraiser.
Superintendent Alan Lumpkin thanked God for making sure nobody was seriously harmed in the accidents that have happened so far in the school year. He also noted that there will be a “pink out” for breast cancer awareness at the Devil’s high school football game this Friday. Pink T-shirts will be available at the game.
Other financial matters passed included: the PRC School District regular claim docket, the PRC School District offline docket, the cash flow report for the 2015-2016 school year, the ad valorem report for the 2015-2016 school year, the bank reconciliation report for the 2015-2016 school year, the budget by source and fund balance reports for the 2015-2016 school year, the amendments to activity funds 1151-1157 for 2015-2016 school year, a donation from The Kula Foundation in the amount of $99 to PRCMS, to amend FY15 budget to actual revenues and expenditures and approving FY2016 budget amendment #3.
The board elected to go into an executive session to discuss personnel. Personnel matters are not public record.
The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.
