This week, narcotics detectives with the Picayune Police Department arrested five more suspects through an ongoing investigation dubbed Operation: Who’s Next?
After conducting a yearlong investigation focusing on alleged drug activity in Picayune, narcotics detectives have arrested a total of 11 suspects wanted on drug related charges and police say more arrests are coming.
Narcotics detectives conducted surveillance of a home at 114 West Sycamore St. on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in search of two suspects wanted each for three counts of sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church, Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.
When detectives knocked on the door, one of the suspects, 25-year-old Brittany Winterstein, answered the door and began yelling and fighting with detectives in an attempt to prevent them from entering the home. Winterstein was then taken into custody after she refused to obey officer’s numerous requests to comply, Magri said.
Detectives entered the home when they heard a constant flushing sound coming from the bathroom. Upon making entry, they found 34-year-old Decori King allegedly flushing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in an attempt to destroy the narcotic, Magri said.
After they secured a search warrant for the home, detectives recovered a black plastic box in the bedroom containing a .380 caliber pistol and a clear plastic bag containing several pills, identified as Norco and Klonopin.
They also found a glass pipe containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, two water pipes containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and two digital scales inside the bedroom. Magri said they also recovered $5,640 in cash, some of which was found on King’s person and the rest was hidden in the bedroom.
King was additionally charged with tampering with physical evidence, felony possession of a controlled substance, two counts of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of paraphernalia, Magri said.
“A check of King’s record showed he was previously convicted with a felony,” Magri said.
Winterstein was additionally charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, hindering prosecution by rendering criminal assistance, resisting arrest by fighting, disorderly conduct failure to comply, two counts of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, Magri said.
Detectives seized the cash. Through further investigation, detectives also seized a 2009 Ford Fusion, which was allegedly used to sell narcotics, Magri said.
In another case, on Oct. 19 at 7:24 p.m., narcotics detectives arrived at 1405 Holly Court in an attempt to serve felony warrants to two suspects wanted for transfer of a controlled substance, Magri said.
Upon approaching the home, detectives observed 32-year-old Jonathan Kenmar inside the residence. As detectives entered the home, Kenmar fled through the back door, leading detectives and patrol officers to pursue him through the neighborhood, which ended in Kenmar being taken into custody, Magri said.
The second suspect, 29-year-old Destin Liebel, was found inside the home. When detectives searched the home, they discovered a pill bottle containing several types of prescription medication and a green leafy substance believed to be synthetic marijuana, Magri said.
Kenmar and Liebel were each additionally charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. Kenmar was also charged with resisting arrest by fleeing. The Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Kenmar for probation violation, Magri said.
In another case, on Oct. 19 at 9:10 p.m., narcotics detectives arrested 50-year-old Keezante Beverly of 714 S. Haugh Ave. Apt. F-41 for an outstanding warrant for the sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church, Magri said.
Chief Bryan Dawsey said he would like to thank the detectives and patrol officers who worked these cases for their hard work in this operation, which is an attempt to make the city a safer place to live.
If anyone in the community has information about someone allegedly selling drugs within city limits, officers ask that they notify the department at 601-798-7411 or call Pearl River County crime stoppers at 601-799-2583.
