Two Carriere women were killed Sunday after their vehicle veered off the highway and struck a tree.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesman Cpl. Ben Seibert said troopers responded to the crash at 11:19 a.m. that day and found a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis had crashed into a tree off of Highway 43 North near Burnt Bridge Road.
The driver, 68-year-old Alana Levy from Carriere, and the passenger, 90-year-old Rose G. Stewart from Carriere, were transported to Highland Community Hospital where they were pronounced dead as a result of blunt force trauma, Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said.
“The wet road conditions, along with the vehicle’s speed, were contributing factors,” Turnage said.
The accident remains under investigation, Seibert said.
