About six months ago, a Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. member spent the night at Robin Poirier’s Sun Roamers RV Park and that member recommended Sun Roamers to the Airstream Club committee looking for a site for their regional convention.
Poirier, the owner of Sun Roamers RV Park, said the committee came by to inspect it as a possible site and they liked the clubhouse and facilities.
“We are one of the only parks with a 6,000 square foot clubhouse with a commercial kitchen. Most RV parks don’t have one that big,” Poirier said.
The event, which spans from Monday, Oct. 12 to Saturday, draws people from six states for the regional convention. The states that will be represented are Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee. There are already 60 reservations Poirier said.
On Wednesday, they have an open house for anyone who wants to come and tour the Airstream RVs. Poirier said. Foley RV center, an airstream dealer based out of Gulfport, is going to have several new RVs that will open for tours and for purchase. Even if people can’t make it Wednesday, Poirier said they could come by other days to check out the RVs.
“Airstream is like the Cadillac of the RVs and the oldest RV manufacturer. There will be several days where people will be touring the local attractions, eating at the local restaurants and shopping at the local businesses,” Poirier said.
The itinerary for the week includes a multitude of events such as a golf tournament, lunches, tours of the Gulf Coast, Stennis Space Center and the Crosby Arboretum.
Sun Roamers RV Park has been preparing ever since the event was confirmed and there is a lot of buzz around the event said Poirier and that they added a BBQ pit.
“Come on by and see the Airstreams, they’re beautiful,” Poirier said.
