A few of my favorite things about fall

I’m so glad my favorite time of year is here.
Fall has officially begun and even though the temperature is still climbing into the high 80s most days, I welcome the arrival of fall décor, pumpkin spice lattes, fall-scented candles and, of course, the rich berry and brown tones of fall-appropriate lip and eye colors.
While I’m waiting for the temperature to drop, I have started unpacking my cozy sweaters and boots.
My favorite blankets have been washed and neatly folded. I’m ready for those cold nights spent sipping on hot chocolate and watching a classic movie.
For me, attending events in the fall is more enjoyable than in the summer heat.
I still attend events during the long, hot summer, but I’d rather attend a festival with a cool breeze blowing with it only deterred by my snuggly, warm coat and beret.
This may sound strange to some, but I’ve always preferred the stark look of trees and gray tones in the sky that often characterize the winter months.
Then there are the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of my favorites.
For those two days, families put aside their differences and come together to give thanks and spend time with one another. It stopped being about Santa Claus and presents a long time ago for me.
Now, I cherish the moments I get to spend with my family.
However, I still participate in the mad dash to find the perfect Christmas present for everyone, but that’s not what it’s all about. (However, I’m very excited about shopping for my nephew this year.)
There’s something so cozy about this time of year.
When I smell that first hint of fall in the air, it’s a sign of cooler things to come.
Downtown Picayune will soon be bustling with the sounds of busy shoppers, children’s laughter and the hearty laugh of Santa Claus.
I’m looking forward to covering the festive events here and enjoying the wonderment of the season.
