Fresh catch at Lazy Boyz Seafood

For most people living in South Mississippi, savoring the taste of fresh seafood is a way of life.
In May, a shop opened in Picayune aiming to bring the freshest variety of seafood to locals.
The store is called Lazy Boyz Seafood No. 2 and is owned by Jamie and David Palmer.
The Palmers are originally from Saint Bernard, Louisiana. However, after losing everything to 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, the couple followed family members to the area.
“We would always bring them seafood and then more friends wanted us to bring more, so we decided to open a little place to provide seafood to the people here,” Jamie Palmer said.
Six-years ago, the Palmers opened the original Lazy Boyz in Saint Bernard, where they feature shrimp and fish from local fishermen.
David Palmer has been a commercial fisherman for the past 20 years, Jamie Palmer said. He operates several boats out of Hopedale, Louisiana for the purpose of catching shrimp, oysters, fish and crabs.
The Palmers currently offer a variety of seafood including fresh and boiled shrimp, crawfish when they are in season, fish and blue, dungeon, soft shell and snow crabs.
In the future, the Palmers plan to add oysters to the menu. Jamie Palmer said she plans to offer fried seafood sandwiches and may open up a dining area for guests.
She said it’s important to support local fisherman rather than purchasing imported seafood.
“Our products are brought straight from the boat to our store,” Jamie Palmer said. “The local response has been very good. The customers are friendly and thank us for being here and giving them another source for fresh seafood.”
Lazy Boyz Seafood No. 2 is located at 500 Hwy. 11 S. The store is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Palmer said she is trying to add additional hours along the way, but their hours depend on product availability.
“I like to be open when I have fresh products,” she said.
