On Saturday, Walmart is hosting Free Safety Check Saturday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The event is designed to provide useful safety tips and information about car maintenance.
The Picayune Police Department will also be on hand to talk about car safety regarding children, including car seat safety.
“We will have a booth set up, and will be talking about proper child restraint safety,” said Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.
Walmart associates from the Tire Lube and Express will be checking car batteries, wiper blades, tire pressure, tire tread and encouraging anyone who may be traveling this summer to keep up with their car maintenance. Associates will also be providing free tire quotes.
“We just want to give back to the community in any way we can, and heighten the awareness of safety,” said Tire Lube and Express associate George Fassitt.
Walmart is sponsoring the event in recognition of National Safety Month, said Fassitt. This is the first safety awareness event Walmart in Picayune has hosted, but Fassitt hopes it will not be the last.
“Hopefully we can make it an annual thing,” said Fassitt.
Walmart’s vision center will offer tips to the community on how to care for their eyes, and also giving away eyeglass lens cleaner kits, said Fassitt.
The event will be located outside the left side of the store in front of the garden center.
There will be free face painting, balloons for children, a Nascar tire giveaway as well as an oil change and other giveaways.
There will be hot dogs, chips and drinks available for purchase, and all proceeds from the event will go to the Children’s Miracle Network.
